ECC (Electric City Couture) presents IDENTITY, a runway fashion show to be held at the New York State Museum, 222 Madison Avenue, Albany, NY. The show will feature a bold mix of four established and up-and-coming New York State designers and 35 models in a single night performance that explores fashion as an expression of identity, simultaneously celebrating and raising questions about this timely social issue.
Designers include:
- Meg Kluball (Clifton Park)
- PopImpressKA by Olga Papkovitch (Manhattan)
- Marjolaine’s Touch by Marjolaine Arsnault (North Creek)
- Adam Van Buren (Albany)
“IDENTITY is currently such a divisive subject, I felt compelled to explore it. By staging it in the New York Metropolis section of the NYS Museum, we are able to deepen the concept of identity as a reverberating theme with a story that contextually ties into the history of the State of New York, which is the primary focus of our represented designer studios, ateliers and production facilities.” Corey Aldrich – Producer at Electric City Couture
Electric City Couture’s mission is to provide a platform to increase awareness for regional fashion designers and fashion support industries, and to stimulate a regional fashion-based economy.
ECC is partnering with ACE (Upstate Alliance for the Creative Economy) to roll out FASHION UPSTATE. FASHION UPSTATE’s purpose will be to create opportunities for established and aspiring fashion professionals to work together in support of fashion-based industry that can provide meaningful employment and resource opportunities in the Capital Region.
The FASHION UPSTATE committee is headed by Corey Aldrich of ECC and Carmen Duncan, CEO and Founder of Mission Accomplished Transition Services, an Albany based nonprofit organization that prepares millennials to find their purpose, develop their skills and transition into the global workforce, higher education and charitable activities. Mission Accomplished will be playing an active part in helping to develop millennial educational programming as part of the new FASHION UPSTATE initiative.
As part of this new commitment, Electric City Couture has created 2 paid fashion intern positions based around the IDENTITY show that will be filled by recent graduates of the Fashion Edition, a fashion-focused career education program run by Mission Accomplished.
“There is so much potential for a first-rate Fashion Industry in the Capital Region,” said Maureen Sager, Project Director for Upstate ACE. “We’ve got amazing designers, photographers, stylists, boutiques, makeup artists, and so much more. Our new FASHION UPSTATE initiative will bring together professionals from across the 8-county Capital Region, encouraging them to work together to create new opportunities and attract new business. The IDENTITY event is a great way to kick us off, as it will include a team of over 50 people, from planning stage to runway. This is exactly how an industry starts.”
The popular Buy It Off The Runway retail area, The POP UP! Shop, returns again giving attendees the opportunity to purchase directly from show designers off the runway immediately following the event.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][/cs_content]
